| Bio: | I collect teddy bears, rescue homeless cats and dogs, and draw cartoons and animation. But my "hobby" is bettas. At the time of this writing I have 25 of them.Males and females. I don't breed them, all mine are the breeder-snubbed veiltails from pet stores.I have no desire to breed them.Not because they are "mutts" or "impure",but because I know I couldn't keep all of a spawn and I would refuse to take them to a pet store, which is the type of place I often rescue bettas from.I am simply not a breeder at heart.I find the process incredibly fascinating, but I would only do it if I were sure I had room to keep my babies! I couldn't cull, I couldn't get rid of the "less desirables". I enjoy them for what they are, not for producing something better. I often fancy the odd and undesirable anyway. I go for strange colors and patterns. Most of my betta collection is handpicked for color and personality--finnage doesn't really wow me. As a matter of fact, if you held a gun to my head I'd have to say I prefer short fins! But I have a great soft spot for sick bettas in pet stores,and I buy them also for the challenge of finding out their specific illnesses and nursing them back to health.I lose some, and there are some I have bought simply to ease their suffering as they die.But I have had some successes and kept them. They are my pets,my little jewels, my dear bettas. | |||||
